Things to do in Huntington Beach on Your Spring Break

First of all you will not be bored! Huntington Beach is full of activities, perfect weather, great food, events and lovely beaches. If you’re planning a trip to Surf City USA, you’re in for the time of your life!

Huntington Beach is nestled between many other beach cities that you may want to venture to by bike or car, but you don’t need to. There’s plenty to do with or without the kiddos! Below you will find a list of some of my favorite spring break activities.

Family photo shoot – This is what I do. I’m Carol Larsen of Carol Larsen Photography. I have many clients that have come to Huntington Beach for vacation and while on vacation in this glorious city, they have reached out to have these memories captured on film. Over the years I have compiled a list of some of the best things to do while vacationing.

Main St., Huntington Beach

Main St offers a collection of restaurants, bars and shopping. You can pick up souvenirs to take back home or you can have a nice dinner at Duke’s. Every Tuesday night from 6pm-9pm Huntington Beach closes down Main St to host it’s iconic street fair. Live music and incredible smells fill the streets. You can browse the aisles filled with local vendors and find anything from local art to locally grown produce.  Some weeks they have bounce houses, live entertainment and the hot nuts are amazing.

Disneyland – Everyone loves Disneyland. This is a definitely a favorite and not far if you want to stay in Huntington Beach. Less than a 30 minute drive and you’re there!

Hotels – Here are a few popular choices-

Hyatt Bridge Huntington Beach

The Hyatt Huntington Beach and the Hilton Huntington Beach are both very family friendly hotels, located within walking distance of the pier and right across the street from the beach!

Pasea Huntington Beach is new, modern hotel. It is a scaled more for adults and is also right across the street from the beach.

All 3 of these hotels are south of downtown and right next to Pacific City, a great outdoor shopping plaza.

Another great boutique style hotel The ShorebreakIt is north of the Huntington Beach Pier, but is still surrounded by great shopping and restaurants.

Restaurants – Here are some of my go-to places

Sancho’s Tacos is off of 6th and PCH. Some of my favorite dishes include the breakfast burrito, the veggie tacos and the carnitas. If you happen to be there for breakfast and are in need of a caffeinated pick-me-up, don’t forget to stop by the shop next door for some of Huntington’s best coffee.

Ruby’s Diner – Perfectly located at the end of the pier. With the amazing views of the ocean and the mountains, it doesn’t get much better!  It’s a kid friendly 50’s style diner. You have a good chance of seeing dolphins swim by. If you’re in the mood for something sweet, try a Ruby’s shake. The kids size is perfect for everyone. If you want to enjoy your lunch in the Huntington Beach sunlight, they have a take-out window.

If you’re looking for a more upscale, adult experience, Pacific City has a great collection of restaurants and bars. One of my adult favorites is Blue Gold. Pacific City also offers a multitude of your favorite stores along with a few new boutiques.

Experiencing the Coastline

Huntington Surf & Sport (HSS) is a local family surf shop that offers lessons and surfboard rentals. You can also buy iconic surf apparel here, including the signature HSS t-shirt.

The Huntington Beach coastline, boasts a beautiful boardwalk that is perfect for walking, jogging and riding your recently rented beach cruiser. There are a few rental facilities along the boardwalk that you can’t miss. If you travel north of the pier, your first landmark are the Bolsa Chica Wetlands.

Bolsa Chica Wetlands – You can park your bike and walk around the beautiful ecological reserve.  It is a great way to spend the day and is free to enter. If you get hungry, continue your bike ride north, to SeaLegs on the Beach, where you can order drinks and appetizers and enjoy live music on the weekends. This is also the part of the beach where you can have a bonfire.
